| My Current Reading: The American Girls Handy Book, or How to amuse yourself and others, is "a reprint of an end-of-century publication for young ladies instructing them in such hobbies as fancy needlework, handmade dolls, china painting, painting in oils, heraldic painting, preservation of wild flowers, and many others." |
Last night around a quarter til 11pm, Rob, Steve, and I set out to a small beach to find some winds for kite flying. We found some. I helped and watched. I didn't fly myself because I am unskilled and have never flown at night before.
It's been a while since I've been to a beach at night time. It's kinda of crazy to look out at the water and the sky. The only thing that seperates the two is thin of line of lights where the two masses meet. I found it also strange that birds stood, doing nothing that I could see, in many groups on the wet sand. They do the same thing during the day time, so why shouldn't they at night? I never thought of this. I figured they would have flown home to the family for the night or just somewhere else. But where else would they go? I don't know.
I regretted not bringing my camera, but eventually that gave way to the appreciation of things at present. We stayed until around 1am I think (despite the park "ranger" shooing us away at 11pm). Rob broke the spine of another stunt kite; he says he has the "Death Touch." Steven enjoyed a long bout of being dragged around by his kite. I enjoyed watching and whooping at the birds when they whooped at me.

I tried transfering pictures of my handbags from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 Digital Camera to the laptop last night, and in my fury, I messed up the AV OUT/DIGITAL socket (where the USB cord goes). Plus the card reader on the laptop doesn't work.
SO! Robert is going to get me a seperate USB card reader from Best Buy with a gift certificate we received with our purchase of our HP Printer/Scanner/Copier. I also e-mailed Panasonic to see if the connectors could be repaird. So this is a set back - to not be able to upload and edit pics - but Rob's working on it. Thanks Robby!

Rob informed me recently that I get up and do stuff in the middle of the night, like get a drink of water, turn on the tv, walk around the house, go on the computer, talk to him. The bad thing is I don't remember doing any of these things.
Today he woke up and wondered why an open package of chocolate chip cookies was on the kitchen counter. I sure don't know why but some of the cookies are missing. So it's either
A) I ate the cookies
B) Robert ate the cookies
C) Someone broke into the house and ate our cookies
But there was no sign of a break-in and if Rob ate the cookies, he would be sick because he is allergic to chocolate. So that leaves me. I hope I don't wander out into traffic in the middle of the night. I toyed with the idea of tying my ankle to the bed somehow, but I know I'd just fall on my face when I actually got up in the morning.
Another thing:
Robert and I were at Publix today and we were going thru the checkout line. Robert mentioned how I was oblivious. I got defensive and started with "what? how am I oblivious? what are you talking about? I'm not oblivious!"
I looked up and saw a lady standing behinds us in line that I reminded me Victoria, the wife of Mark who is a guy I work with. Then I looked at the man standing next to her and it was Mark! I said "Hi!" and Robert said they had been standing there the whole time we were in line - and apparently Mark had been chanting "Helloooooo, Weendyyyyyy... Helloooo Weendyyyyy..." the whole time as well. I was confused and felt bad/said sorry. I'll have to ask Mark about the whole thing on Monday.
Being in your own world isn't all it's cracked up to be.
No more leaks, yay. The water heater that came with our house has been leaking for a long while. It just empties into our laundry room which seeps into our living room. So we've had to keep our water main turned off all day everyday, except for when we take showers and need to do laundry or dishes.
I'm not sure of the details on how we got/who installed the new water heater, but I came home from work and it was there - in all its glory. So now, no wet carpet or turning off the water main outside after using it! It's something to be excited about. Thanks Rob!

Rob, Jon, and I went to go see them on Saturday night.
It was worth the drive and the additional waiting!
Rob and I took 160 pictures of their performance.
Here are two of them. One with flash, one without.

Knology came by to disconnect our cable tv services (upon our request), and at the same time, disabled our cable INTERNET CONNECTION which we needed and did not want disconnected. So 3 days after their mistake, we have a connection again. HOOWAA!
My sewing table (consisting of two tall floor speakers and a slab of MDF set between) has been commissioned to serve as a keyboard stand for a few jems in Robert's growing keyboard/synth collection. So the living room in our house (my sewing space) is rather... up in arms? Pictures to come!

LIGHTNING! Come see :) Robert took some pictures of the lightning that was going on outside the house. I think he did a good job! Here are some more pictures of the lightning. Clicky Click!

This is the last bag I made. It used to be padded scarf-thing, fresh out of the 70s. I'm guessing it is polyester, as are most things from the 70s.
I tried my hand at some free-hand abstract machine-stitching on the flap to secure a piece of velco. What do you think?
I made this bag for myself, but I'm not going to use it. A few days after I made this bag, we went to the Army/Navy store in the area, and I bought myself a less-than-four-dollars belt bag. It suits me.
Things I Will Miss:
- Iron Chef
- Adult Swim shows (ahh, no!) - Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Inuyasha, Fullmetal Alchemist!, Ghost In the Shell
- on-a-budget or no budget design shows on HGTV
- Good Eats with Alton Brown
But who needs TV anyway (besides the aforementioned shows :-p)?
In other news, Rob, Jon, and I were at Borders today, and we all sat awhile and enjoyed drinks and books/magazines. I finished this months issue of Threads magazine. I copied a few things out of the magazine onto paper - like the instructions on how to make a simple shrug. Does that make me a bad person?

Off I go to pay more bills and make a shrug with my stolen pattern!

Anyway, I'm excited about having the website up and Robby's new keyboard. I miss playing music a bit. I want to join in again, but not sure how. Robert's taught me how to play guitar, drums, piano, bass. I think I like playing bass and keyboard/synths the most. Every instrument has its perks, but I enjoy the said instruments the most, I think.
I haven't been eating very well lately. I'm just too lazy to prepare food, or I'm involved in other stuff so much that I run out of time to prepare myself lunch for work, etc. I had a mustard/cheese sandwich for "breakfast." I burnt some garlic bread at work today, so I had a big chunk of that plus some carrots I brought from home. And that's about all I've eaten so far, 'sides the few nachos on the way home from work.
We've made a bit of extra money in the past couple weeks. I've been thinking about getting a serger or new sewing machine. I'm currently using Robert's mother's mother's Kenmore machine. It's from the 80s or earlier. It does most things that I need. I don't do a LOT of clothing, but it'd be nice to have the edges finished as I sew. But considering I don't work from commercial patterns much, I'd prolly need to work with the seams and what not before I finished the edges. But, I could always do french seams, etc. for pants and similar items. The other technique I'd like to incorporate is narrow hemming.
Robbys sleepy! off to bed I go.

WendyWears.com !
ok thats enough.
Well, this means I'll have to update this journal more often :)
There are about 6 items in my Etsy store left. I have near 10 new items to add; I just need to take pictures of all them! Soon enough. Here is a picture of the messenger bag I sold there.
